Getting out of bed may bring a deep ache near your groin. The hip might catch when you turn, while its outer side feels sore to touch. Where you feel the ache helps a doctor look for its cause.

We’ll cover common causes, useful home care, and signs that need medical help. You won’t find a long lecture about every hip problem here, so please make yourself comfortable. We’ll stay with the questions that brought you here.

## What to notice about the soreness

Soreness inside the joint often feels deep in the groin or upper thigh, especially while you tie a shoe, leave a low chair, or take your first steps after sitting. That doesn’t prove arthritis, but it does tell the doctor where to begin the exam. You’re giving useful facts.

Outer-hip soreness may come from a tendon, a tough cord connecting muscle with bone. Lying on that side can press the tender area and disturb your sleep. A catch during a deep bend may come from something else. The exam helps tell these causes apart.

## What to try when the hip is sore

Keep walks and chores gentle enough that the ache settles afterward. Break a long chore into brief parts, and rest before the next part begins. If a cane makes walking steadier, it’s fine to use one. You needn’t push through sharp soreness.

Try sleeping on the other side when the outer hip is tender, and spend less time doing the action that starts the ache. Medicines deserve a talk with your doctor because your other health needs affect the choice. We’d rather have you ask than guess.

## When to have the hip looked at

A regular visit is worthwhile when soreness keeps getting in the way. Bring a few notes about sleep, walking, stairs, dressing, and getting into the car. The doctor will ask when you first noticed the ache and which movements hurt. A few lines will do.

After a fall, get prompt care if you can’t stand on that leg. A fever with a hot or swollen hip also needs quick medical care. Sudden weakness or numbness while you can’t control your bladder or bowels needs emergency care, so don’t wait for a regular appointment.

## What to notice during a Mesa outing

A walk at Sloan Park or a class in Leisure World may reveal hip trouble. You might notice soreness during parking, stairs, fixed seating, or the next morning. There’s no need to force the outing.

At Usery Mountain, Wind Cave Trail is a roughly 1.5-mile hiking-only climb rated difficult. Las Sendas adds slopes and golf near Red Mountain. If you visit these places, note when the ache begins and how long it lasts.

QC Kinetix has no clinic inside Mesa. Its Chandler office is located at 1100 S. Dobson Road, Suite 210. West, central, east, and southeast Mesa can reach it by Dobson Road, US-60, Loop 101, or Loop 202.

The office in Scottsdale is at 9220 E. Mountain View Road, Suite 210. It’s often the shorter trip from Falcon Field or Las Sendas, as well as Red Mountain and areas north of McDowell Road. Call (602) 837-PAIN if you’d like help choosing.

1. Pooled analysis of national joint registries (Australia and Finland, 215,676 hip replacements) put 25-year all-cause construct survival at 57.9% (95% CI 57.1-58.7); pooled case series gave 77.6% (95% CI 76.0-79.2). The authors conclude patients and surgeons can expect a hip replacement to last 25 years in around 58% of patients.

## What to do if the soreness doesn’t settle

QC Kinetix offers biologic therapies and regenerative treatments, meaning non-surgical care prepared from your own blood. One choice is platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, made by spinning your blood sample and gathering the part rich in platelets. The medical providers who examine you will explain what the clinic offers and what it can’t promise. You’ll have time to ask questions.

The visit can cover the sore area, hip movement, and the daily tasks now harder. It doesn’t commit you to treatment. Call (602) 837-PAIN to book an exam and ask whether Chandler or Scottsdale is easier to reach. You’re welcome to hear the choices before deciding.
